Shiokaze (Sea Breeze) – 5935 kHz

At about 1313 UTC on 20th May 2022, I tuned in to Shiokaze (Sea-breeze) broadcasting in the Japanese language on 5935 kHz.

On shortwave since 30th October 2005, JSR Shiokaze is produced by the private ‘Investigation Commission on Missing Japanese Probably related to North Korea’ (COMJAN). It is aimed at reaching Japanese citizens believed to have been abducted to North Korea between 1977 and 1983.

The broadcast was coming from the Ibaragi-Koga-Yamata 300kW transmitter in Japan.

The overall reception of Shiokaze (Sea Breeze) was good.

Radio New Zealand – 9700 kHz

At about 1237 UTC on 20th May 2022, I tuned in to Radio New Zealand broadcasting in the Pidgin language on 9700 kHz.

The target area was the North West Pacific and Papua New Guinea.

The overall reception of Radio New was excellent.

China Radio International – 9600 kHz

At about 1203 UTC on 20th May 2022, I tuned in to China Radio International broadcasting in the English language on 9600 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Kunming-Anning 150kW transmitter in China.

The broadcast consisted of the news and a current affairs program ‘The Heat’ with a discussion on the Iran Nuclear deal talks.

The overall reception of China Radio International was excellent.

Deutsche Welle – 15230 kHz

At about 1405 UTC on 14th May 2022, I tuned in to Deutsche Welle broadcasting in the Dari language on 15245 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Nauen 250kW transmitter in Germany.

The overall reception of Deutsche Welle was good.

Voice of Korea – 15245 kHz

At about 1337 UTC on 14th May 2022, I tuned in to the Voice of Korea broadcasting in the English language on 15245 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Kujan 200kW transmitter.

The program consisted of music – singing.

The overall reception of the Voice of Korea was fair-good. By 1353 UTC the signal had faded dramatically.
