2022 Trans Tasman Contest

Last weekend on Saturday I took part in the 2022 Trans Tasman Low Band Contest.

The Trans-Tasman contest, held on the 3rd weekend in July, aims to encourage Low Band activity between Australia and New Zealand. Only contest bands 160 80 and 40M are allowed with SSB, CW and Digital (RTTY OR PSK)

The contest starts at 0800 UTC and completes at 1400 UTC with three 2-hour blocks.

I made a total of 313 QSOs with a claimed score of 7776 points.

Voice of the People, SOUTH KOREA – 3930 kHz

At about 1112 UTC on 9th July 2022, I tuned in to Voice of the People, SOUTH KOREA, broadcasting in the Korean language on 3930 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Kyonggi-do-Koyang 50kW transmitter in SOUTH KOREA.

The overall reception of the Voice of the People was fair.

Radio Tarma, PERU – 4775 kHz

At about 1052 UTC on 9th July 2022, I tuned in to Radio Tarma, PERU, broadcasting in the Spanish language on 4775 kHz.

Short Wave Australia – 4835 kHz

At about UTC on 9th July 2022, I tuned in to Short Wave Australia, broadcasting in the English language on 4835 kHz.

The overall reception of Short Wave Australia was good.

The program consisted of classical music and 1920 music.

At about 1123 UTC on 26th June 2022, I tuned in to WTWW, USA, broadcasting in the English language on 9940 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Lebanon 100kW transmitter in Tennessee, USA.

The overall reception of WTWW was good.

China National Radio CNR2, CHINA – 11800 kHz

At about 1058 UTC on 26th June 2022, I tuned in to CNR2, broadcasting in the Chinese language on 11800 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Beijing 150kW transmitter in China.

The overall reception of CNR2 was good. There was interference from KBS World Radio broadcasting on 11795 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Sirjan 500kW transmitter in Iran.

The overall reception of the Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran was fair. There was some bleed-over from the Sound of Hope broadcasting in the Chinese language on 13670 kHz.

Peoples Broadcasting Station PBS Hulun Buir, CHINA – 3900 kHz

At about 1219 UTC on 7th June 2022, I tuned in to the Peoples Broadcasting Station PBS Hulun Buir, CHINA broadcasting in the Chinese language on 3900 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Hailar 10kW transmitter in China.

The overall reception of the PBS Hulun Buir was poor. The signal was weak and there were moderate static crashes on the band.
