Ilbon-ui Baram (Nippon no Kaze) – 9650 kHz

At about 1327 UTC on the 22nd day of July 2023, I tuned in to Ilbon-ui Baram broadcasting on 9650 kHz in the Korean language.

The station has been on air since July 2007. It is produced by the Japanese government agency ‘Headquarters for the Abduction Issue’, targeting Japanese citizens that are believed to have been abducted to North Korea between 1977 and 1983. The Japanese language broadcast is known as Furusato no Kaze (English: Wind from the Homeland), while the Korean language broadcast is known as Ilbon-ui Baram (Japanese: Nippon no Kaze; English: Wind from Japan).

The overall reception of Ilbon-ui Barm was fair. There was a very evident ‘jamming’ signal on the frequency. There was also some ‘bleed over’ interference from China National Radio CNR1 on 9660 kHz.

Radio Exterior de Espana – 15520 kHz

At about 1458 UTC on Saturday the 22nd day of July 2023, I tuned in to Radio Exterior de Espana broadcasting on 15520 kHz in the Spanish language.

The broadcast was coming from the 200kW transmitter in Noblejas.

The overall reception of Radio Exterior de Espana was good. The signal progressively became stronger during the broadcast. Overall reception at the start of reception was fair.

Trans World Radio India – 13690 kHz

At about 1441 UTC on Saturday the 22nd day of July 2023, I tuned in to Trans World Radio India broadcasting on 13690 kHz in the Hindi? language.

Trans World Radio India commenced broadcasting in 1978.

Radio Marti – 6030 kHz

At about 0741 UTC on the 22nd day of July 2023, I tuned in to Radio Marti broadcasting on 6030 kHz in the Spanish language.

Radio Marti is a USAGM funded service for listeners in Cuba. It was launched in May 1985 and is produced by Office of Cuba Broadcasting.

The broadcast was coming from the 125 kW transmitter in Greenville, USA.

Radio New Zealand – 11725 kHz

At about 0714 UTC on the 22nd day of July 2023, I tuned in to Radio New Zealand broadcasting on 11725 kHz in the English language.

The broadcast was coming from the Rangitaiki 50kW transmitter. The target area was the Pacific.

The overall reception of Radio New Zealand was excellent.

Radio Ndarason Internationale – 15505 kHz

At about 0647 UTC on the 22nd day of July 2023, I tuned in to Radio Ndarason Internationale broadcasting on 15505 kHz in the Kannada language.

Radio Ndarason Internationale has been on air since February 2018. It is produced by the Chad branch of South African based Okapi Consulting in partnership with the intergovernmental ‘Lake Chad Commission’.

Radion Ndarason Internationale has studios in N’Djamena in Chad, and Maiduguri in Nigeria. The station targets the Kanuri, Kanembu and Buduma-speaking populations in areas under the influence of Boko Haram in the Chad Basin region.

Radio Ndarason’s website states:-

“The main role of this radio is to serve as a tool against extreme violence. It serves as a platform to promote a local discourse among all actors affected by the current crisis in the Lake Chad region.”

The Kanuri word ‘ndarason’ translates to ‘wherever you go’.

The overall reception of Radio Ndarason International was good.

At about 0604 UTC on the 18th day of July 2023, I tuned in to Radio Dardasha broadcasting on 11655 kHz in the Arabic language.

The signal was coming from the 125 kW Nauen transmitter in Germany.

The overall reception of Radio Dardasha was good.

Radio New Zealand – 7440 kHz

At about 1259 UTC on the 16th day of July 2023, I tuned in to Radio New Zealand broadcasting on 7440 kHz in the English language.

The overall reception of Radio New Zealand was fair-good. This was due to moderate interference from China Radio International broadcasting in the Chinese language on the same frequency.

Radio New Zealand – 7425 kHz

At about 1238 UTC on Sunday 16th July 2023, I tuned in to Radio New Zealand broadcasting on 7425 kHz in the English language.

The broadcast came from the 50kW transmitter at Rangitaiki on the North Island of New Zealand. The target audience was NW Pacific, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea.

The overall reception of Radio New Zealand was good. There was some interference ‘bleed over’ from China Radio International on 7435 kHz broadcasting in the Chinese language.

Myanma Radio, Myanmar – 5915 kHz

At about 1158 UTC on Sunday 16th July 2023, I tuned in to Myanma Radio broadcasting on 5915 kHz in the Burmese language.

The broadcast was coming from the 50KW Naypyidaw transmitter in Myanmar.

The overall reception of Myanmar Radio was poor – fair. There appeared to be an Over The Horizon Radar on the frequency and adjacent frequencies. There was some interference from CNR5 on 5925 kHz. There were static crashes on the band due to local storms in Australia.
