China National Radio CNR8 – 5975 kHz

At about 1134 UTC on the 18th day of June 2024, I tuned in to China National Radio CNR8, broadcasting in the Korean language on 5975 kHz.

The signal was coming from the Beijing 100kW transmitter. (Short Wave Info 2023)

The overall reception of CNR8 was good.  The signal strength was good and there was no interference on the frequency from other stations or stations on adjacent frequencies.  There was only slight fading of the signal.  There were very slight static crashes on the band.

Radio Prague International – 5010 kHz

At about 1130 UTC on the 16th day of June 2024, I tuned in to Radio Prague International, broadcasting in the Spanish language on 5010 kHz.

The signal was coming from the Okeechobee, Florida USA 100kW transmitter. (Short Wave Info 2023)

The overall reception Radio Prague International was poor.   The signal strength was only fair-poor and there was severe interference from other stations. Static crashes on the band also made listening difficult.

Adventist World Radio – 5010 kHz

At about 1110 UTC on the 16th day of June 2024, I tuned in to Adventist World Radio broadcasting on 5050 kHz in the Spanish language.

The signal was coming from the Okeechobee, Florida 100kW transmitter. (Short Wave Info 2023)

The overall reception of Adventist World Radio was fair.   The signal strength was fair and there was only slight fading of the signal. However, there were moderate static crashes on the band.

Australian HF Touring Club – 6820 kHz

At about 1025 UTC on the 16th day of June 2024, I tuned into the Australian HF Touring Club frequency of 6820 kHz.

The HF Radio maintains base stations in NSW, QLD, NT, & WA, to enable members to communicate to and from anywhere in Australia.

WWCR – 13845 kHz

At about 1206 UTC on the 10th day of June 2024, I tuned in to WWCR in the United States of America, broadcasting in the English language on 13845 kHz.

The signal was coming from the Nashville, Tennessee 100kW transmitter. (Short Wave Info 2023)

The program consisted of Country & Western music.

The overall reception of WWCR was good. The signal strength was strong and there was no interference from other stations. There was only slight fading on the signal.

Radio New Zealand – 13690 kHz

At about 0803 UTC on the 10th day of June 2024, I tuned in to Radio New Zealand, broadcasting in the Pidgin language on 13690 kHz.

The signal was coming from the Rangitaiki 100kW transmitter. (Short Wave Info 2023)

The overall reception Radio New Zealand was excellent.   The signal strength was very strong and there was no fading on the signal. There was no interference from other stations and because the signal was so strong, no atmospheric noise was detected.

Shannon VOLMET, IRELAND – 13264 kHz

At about 0757 UTC on 10th June 2024, I tuned in to Shannon Ireland VOLMET on 13264 kHz.

The purpose of a VOLMET broadcast is to provide weather information to aircraft in flight. The word VOLMET is derived from the French words “vol” meaning flight, and “météo” meaning weather. (SKYbrary 2024)

VMC Charleville, Queensland – 2201 kHz

At about 0940 UTC on the 16th day of May 2024, I tuned in to the Bureau of Meteorology’s marine weather HF radio service VMC broadcasting from Charleville, Queensland, on 2201 kHz.

VMC broadcasts for: Coastal Waters areas off Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania; and High Seas for the Northern, Southern, North Eastern and South Eastern high seas areas.

Bay Islands Radio 5045 kHz

At about 0919 UTC on the 16th day of May 2024, I tuned on to Bay Islands Radio, transmitting on 5045 kHz in the English language.

The station broadcasts from MacLeay Island in Queensland. Macleay Island is an island in Moreton Bay, South East Queensland, Australia.  It is the second largest of the four Bay Islands, situated 30km from Brisbane in the Moreton Bay Marine Park at the southern end of Moreton Bay.

The overall reception of Bay Islands Radio was good. The signal strength was good and unlike the last time I tuned in, there was only slight interference from stations on adjacent frequencies. There was only slight fading of the signal and very few static crashes on the band.
