I received my latest SPFF certificate from Poland via email yesterday. It is issued for having worked 50 different SPFF references.

Thanks to all of the SPFF Activators and the SPFF Awards Team.

A few weeks ago, via email, I received another QSL card from Hope Radio, PALAU, for the reception of their station on 12th December 2021, on 15680 kHz.

At about 1659 UTC on Saturday the 22nd day of January 2022, I tuned in to the Voice of Nigeria, broadcasting in the English language on 11770 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Abuja Lugbe 250 kW transmitter in Nigeria.

The overall reception of the Voice of Nigeria was fair.

At about 1633 UTC on 22nd January 2022, I tuned in to Radio Manara International, NIGERIA, broadcasting on 15285 kHz in the Hausa language.

Manara radio is a Sunni Muslim station produced by the religious broadcasting company Manara Radio & Television and targetting Hausa speakers in West Africa and the middle east. The station has been on air since 12th June 2015 and was initiated by the Nigerian Islamic organisation Jama`atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS).

The broadcast was coming from the Issoudun 150 kW transmitter in France.

The overall reception of Radio Manara International was fair.

At about 1615 UTC on 22nd January 2022, I tuned in to Raadiyooni Dirree Shaggar, ETHIOPIA, broadcasting on 15330 kHz in the Oromo language.

Raadiyoonii Dirree Shaggar (RDS) is a shortwave radio division of Oromia Public Media (OPM). Under the umbrella of OPM, RDS is established for the sole purpose of educating, informing, and entertaining the Oromo people in Oromia and beyond with no access to any media.

The broadcast was coming from the Issoudun 250 kW transmitter in France.

At about 1557 UTC on 22nd January 2022, I tuned in to Radio Dabanga, SUDAN, broadcasting on 15550 kHz in the Darfur Arabic language.

Radio Dabanga is an independent, Sudanese news and information broadcaster which was founded in 2008.  It has been on air since 15th November 2008. It is aimed at listeners in the Darfur area in Western Sudan.

The dabanga, or ‘damanga’, ‘dabunga’  is one of the most important parts of a Sudanese family home.  Used by Sudanese farmers to presrve food, it is a large storage vessel, made of a mixture of clay, water and dried grass/

Dabangas are used to store crops, such as corn and grain, to keep them from spoiling.  Farmers sometimes hide their money or other valuables in the bottom.

The broadcast was coming from Santa Maria di Galeria 250 kW transmitter.

The overall reception of Radio Dabanga was good. The signal strength was good and there was no interference from other stations.

At about 1534 UTC on 22nd January 2022, I tuned in to Radio Tamazuj, SUDAN broadcasting on 15150 kHz.

Radio Tamazuj covers South Sudan, the southern states of Sudan, and the borderlands between the two countries. Tamazuj means ‘intermingling’ or ‘mixing’ in Arabic. The name was originally coined for the mix of cultures that span the borderlands between Sudan and South Sudan.

At about 1513 UTC on 22nd January 2022, I tuned in to Dimsti Weyane Tigray, ETHIOPIA, broadcasting in the Tigrinya language on 15160 kHz.

Dimsti Weyane is headquartered in Mekelle, Tigray. The Tigray Region, officially the Tigray National Regional State, is the northernmost regional state in Ethiopia. The station broadcasts programs in various categories including educational, entertainment, political, socio-cultural, documentaries, news and news analysis.

The broadcast was coming from the Issoudun 250 kW transmitter in France.

At times there was a siren type noise on the frequency, possibly a jamming signal.

At about 1431 UTC on Saturday 22nd January 2022, I tuned in to Radio Free Europe, broadcasting in the Tajik language on 9470 kHz.

Radio Free Europe’s mission is “to promote democratic values and institutions and advance human rights by reporting the news in countries where a free press is banned by the government or not fully established.” 

The broadcast was coming from RFE’s Lampertheim 100kW transmitter in Germany.

At about 1409 UTC on 22nd January 2022, I tuned in to WBCQ, USA, broadcasting in the English language on 9330 kHz.

The broadcast was coming from the Monticello 250 kW transmitter.

The overall reception of WBCQ was excellent. The signal strength was very good. There was some interference from the Voice of America broadcasting in the Khmer language on 9335 kHz.
