VK5WOW and VI5WOW

During the past couple of weeks I have had a terrific time using the VK5WOW and VI5WOW calls for the upcoming Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) AGM and Convention in Hahndorf, South Australia.

I would like to thank the North East Radio Club and the WIA Organising Committee for allowing me use to these calls.

Remember that all contacts with VK5WOW and VI5WOW count towards the special 2017 AGM & Convention Award.

I activated 6 parks for the VK5 National and Conservation Parks Award & World Wide Flora Fauna (WWFF), and one mill for the recent Mills on the Air Weekend.  I made a total of 841 contacts.

Here is a breakdown of my activations……

  • Scott Creek Conservation Park (16/4/2017) -157 QSOs
  • Cooltong Conservation Park (23/4/2017) – 161 QSOs
  • Monarto Conservation Park (28/4/2017) – 113 QSOs
  • Totness Recreation Park (4/5/2017) – 130 QSOs
  • Nixons Mill Hahndorf (13/5/2017) – 89 QSOs
  • Kenneth Stirling Conservation Park (13/5/2017) – 107 QSOs

  1. Hi Paul. Many thanks for all your efforts getting the special calls on the air. I got seven contacts with VK5WOW and two with VI5WOW, all with yourself behind the microphone (and my first mill contact too). All I need to figure out now is how to apply for the award. Cheers and 73. Mark VK4SMA

    • Hi Mark,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. And thanks for all the contacts.

The 2017 AGM/Convention Award will be via the on-line WIA Awards system. Hopefully it will go live soon. I’ve designed the certificate and provided it to the gurus, so it should be there soon.

      73,

  2. Hi Paul, Thanks for your efforts with VK5WOW and VI5WOW. Those two call signs have had a great run and it will be interesting to see how many awards are given.

    • Hi John,

I had a great time using these calls. I added a further 100 or so contacts to the VK5WOW/VI5WOW log over the weekend. I gave VK5WOW a short 20 minute run on Sunday morning, and then VI5WOW for an hour late on Sunday afternoon. Brings the total QSOs to just below 1,000.

Thanks for being part of the organisation of the weekend. It was a resounding success.

      73,

      Paul VK5PAS.

    • I’ve squeezed in 2 more activations (1 as VK5WOW & 1 as VI5WOW) since this as well Chris, with around another 100 QSOs added to the tally.

      Cheers,

      Paul VK5PAS.
